Preface.

The Art of Inoculating the Small-Pox, ever ſince Mr. Maitland introduced it[1], has been practiſed, more or leſs, in many Parts of this Kingdom; but, for many Years, like other Modes and Faſhions, has met with Approbation or Diſlike from the Prevalence of either Caprice or Faction, without attributing Merit or Demerit to its Succeſs or Failing: And ſome of the Clergy, at firſt, as well as the Phyſicians, were drawn into Parties on the Occaſion; ſome approving, and others diſapproving the new Practice.
