PROVIDENCE prevented my coming to see you at Edisto,—however, I must not omit writing to you now. How is it with your heart? I hope you are not nimis uxorius; take heed, my dear B—, take heed. Time is short. It remains that those who have wives, be as tho' they had none. Let nothing intercept, or interrupt your communion with the bridegroom of the church. I hope you do not feel such damps of soul, as you used to complain of. May the Lord of glory dispel every black cloud, and cause you continually to rejoice in his salvation. You have strong passions.
