CHAPTER XVIII.

1. Tzu Chang was studying with a view to preferment. 2. The Master said to him: "Hear much, reserve whatever causes you doubt, and speak guardedly of the rest; you will then suffer little criticism. See much, reserve whatever seems imprudent, and act guardedly as to the rest; you will then have few regrets.
