A MAP OF

THE COTTON KINGDOM

and its Dependencies IN AMERICA.

Dominant Cotton Districts. (producing two Bales or more to each Slave) Blue

Subordinate Cotton Districts. (producing less than two Bales) Yellow

Subsidiary Slave Districts. (producing no Cotton or less than half a Bale) Red

Full horizontal lines indicate in which there is a strong Slave property interest, there being more Slaves than Freemen here resident. Dotted horizontal lines shew a moderate Slave property interest.

In all the colored space not covered by horizontal lines, the resident free population is more than two to one of the Slaves, but is yet hampered with slavery.

The data for this map are mainly derived from the United States Census of 1850.
