and illustrated in the shadow of the Saturday before the Easter victory? It is in one of the old hymns:
"Low in the grave He lay—
Jesus, my Saviour!
Waiting the coming day—
Jesus, my Lord!
Death cannot keep his prey—
Jesus, my Saviour!
He tore the bars away—
Jesus, my Lord!
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o'er His foes;
He arose a victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever with His saints to reign:
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!"
And He arose once on Easter morning that on the Saturday before and on every day, every one of us might also rise out of the old, low, selfish, defeated life into the life through which are beating the victorious energies and the sufficient strength of God. Shall it be so with us?
"Rigid I lie in a winding sheet,
Which mine own hands did weave,
And my narrow cell is myself—myself,
Which yet I may not cleave.
"And yet in the dawn of the early morn,
A clear voice seems to say,
'I am the Lord of the final word,
And ye may not say Me nay.
