Public Law 100-344 100th Congress Joint Resolution June 23, 1988 [S.J. Res. 147]

Designating the week beginning on the third Sunday of September in 1988 as "National Adult Day Care Center Week".

Whereas more than 1,200 adult day care centers are in operation nationwide, providing safe and positive environments to functionally disabled adults and senior citizens who are in need of daytime assistance or supervision; Whereas adult day care centers have comprehensive programs providing a variety of services related to health, including medical therapy, medication monitoring, counseling, and health education; Whereas adult day care centers are operated by professional staffs which identify individual health needs and give appropriate advice; Whereas adult day care centers assist functionally disabled adults and senior citizens in maintaining a maximum level of independence; Whereas adult day care centers provide opportunities for social interaction to individuals who otherwise may be socially isolated; and Whereas adult day care centers offer relief to families who otherwise must provide constant care to functionally disabled adults and senior citizens, including victims of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. That the week beginning on the third Sunday of September in 1988 is designated as "National Adult Day Care Center Week". The President is requested to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe such week with appropriate ceremonies and activities. Approved June 23, 1988.
