other applicable provisions of law to be serving on active duty in the Air Force in the grade of colonel during fiscal year 1989 is hereby reduced by 125, and the number of such officers that (but for this section) would be so authorized to be serving on active duty during fiscal year 1990 is hereby reduced by 250. SEC. 411. END STRENGTHS FOR SELECTED RESERVE 10 USC 261 note. (a) AUTHORIZATION.—The Armed Forces are authorized strengths for Selected Reserve personnel of the reserve components as of September 30, 1989, as follows: (1) The Army National Guard of the United States, 457,300. (2) The Army Reserve, 320,600. (3) The Naval Reserve, 152,600. (4) The Marine Corps Reserve, 43,600. (5) The Air National Guard of the United States, 115,200. (6) The Air Force Reserve, 83,600. (7) The Coast Guard Reserve, 13,000. db) CONFORMING AMENDMENTS.—(1) Section 411(c) of the National

Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Years 1988 and 1989 (Public 10 USC 261 note. Law 100-180; 101 Stat. 1082) is amended by striking out "or subsection (b)" and inserting in lieu thereof "or section 411(a) of the National Defense Authorization Act, Fiscal Year 1989". (2) Section 411(d) of such Act is amended by striking out "subsections (a) and (b)" and inserting in lieu thereof "subsection (a) and by section 411(a) of the National Defense Authorization Act, Fiscal Year 1989". SEC. 412. END STRENGTHS FOR RESERVES ON ACTIVE DUTY IN SUPPORT OF THE RESERVES Within the strengths prescribed in section 411, the reserve components of the Armed Forces are authorized, as of September 30, 1989, the following number of Reserves to be serving on full-time active duty or, in the case of members of the National Guard, full-time National Guard duty for the purpose of organizing, administering, recruiting, instructing, or training the reserve components: (1) The Army National Guard of the United States, 25,725. (2) The Army Reserve, 13,329. (3) The Naval Reserve, 21,991. (4) The Marine Corps Reserve, 1,945. (5) The Air National Guard of the United States, 7,948. (6) The Air Force Reserve, 657. SEC. 413. CLARIFICATION OF APPLICABILITY OF PRIOR AMENDMENTS RELATING TO NUMBER OF MEMBERS IN CERTAIN GRADES AUTHORIZED TO BE ON ACTIVE DUTY IN SUPPORT OF THE RESERVES

The provisions of section 5 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Years 1988 and 1989 (Public Law 100-180; 101 Stat. 1020) may not be construed as applying to the amendments made by subsections (a)(2) and (b)(2) of section 413 of such Act.
