An Act Oct. 4, 1988 [8.2846]

To provide for the awarding of grants for the purchase of drugs used in the treatment of AIDS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. GRANTS FOR TREATMENT DRUGS FOR ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME.

Part B of title HI of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 243 et seq.) is amended by inserting after section 314 the following new section: 42 USC 247.

"SEC. 315. GRANTS FOR TREATMENT DRUGS FOR ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME.

State and local governments.

"(a) AUTHORITY.—The Secretary, may make grants to the States for the purpose of assisting grantees in the provision of drugs determined to prolong the life of individuals found to have acquired immune deficiency syndrome and related conditions. "(b) AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS.—For the
