Whereas for a century the people of Montana have made substantial contributions to the economic and social well-being of the United States of America; Whereas the State of Montana, known as "Big Sky Country", with wide vistas and scenic mountains, is a State of incomparable beauty; and Whereas the history of Montana is forever intertwined with the history of westward expansion in the United States of America: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That November 8, 1989, is designated as "Montana Centennial Day", and the President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation acknowledging the economic, social, and historic contributions of the people of Montana to the United States of America over the past century.
