For the purchase of Spanish and Mexican law books for the office of the surveyor-general New Mexico, required as a[u]thori_ties in the investigation of private land claims, five hundred dollars. For rent of the surveyor-general’s office in New Mexico, fuel, books, stationery, and other incidental expenses, three thousand dollars. For compensation of the surveyor-general of Kansas and Nebraska, and the clerks in his office, eight thousand three hundred dollars. For compensation of the surveyor—general of Utah, and the clerks in his office, eight thousand dollars; and that the salary of the surveyorgeneral of Utah shall be four thousand dollars a year from the first day of January, eighteen hundred and nity-six.
