DEMONSTRATION PROJECT FOR INSTRUCTION AND SUP- 10 USC 2111 PORT OF ARMY ROTC UNITS BY MEMBERS OF THE ARMY note. RESERVE AND NATIONAL GUARD. (a) DEMONSTRATION PROJECT REQUIRED.— The Secretary of the Army shall carry out a demonstration project in order to assess the feasibility and advisability of providing instruction and similar support to units of the Senior Reserve Officers' Training Corps of the Army through members of the Army Reserve (including members of the Individual Ready Reserve) and members of the Army National Guard. (b) PROJECT REQUIREMENTS.—(1) The Secretary shall carry out the demonstration project at at least one institution of higher education. (2) In order to enhance the value of the project, the Secretary may take actions to ensure that members of the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard provide instruction and support under the project in a variety of innovative ways. (c) INAPPLICABILITY OF LIMITATION ON RESERVES IN SUPPORT OF ROTC.— The assignment of a member of the Army Reserve or the Army National Guard to provide instruction or support under the demonstration project shall not be treated as an assignment of the member to duty with a unit of a Reserve Officer Training Corps program for purposes of section 12321 of title 10, United States Code. (d) REPORTS TO CONGRESS. — Not later than February 1 in each of 1998 and 1999, the Secretary shall submit to Congress a report assessing the activities under the demonstration project during the preceding year. The report submitted in 1999 shall include the Secretary's recommendation as to the advisability of continuing or expanding the authority for the project. (e) TERMINATION. — The authority of the Secretary to carry out the demonstration project shall expire three years after the date of the enactment of this Act. SEC. 555. EXTENSION OF MAXIMUM AGE FOR APPOINTMENT AS A CADET OR MIDSHIPMAN IN THE SENIOR RESERVE OFFI- CERS' TRAINING CORPS AND THE SERVICE ACADEMIES. (a) SENIOR RESERVE OFFICERS' TRAINING CORPS.— Sections 2107(a) and 2107a(a) of title 10, United States Code, are amended— (1) by striking out "25 years of age" and inserting in lieu thereof "27 years of age"; and (2) by striking out "29 years of age" and inserting in lieu thereof "30 years of age". (b) UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY.— Section 4346(a) of such title is amended by striking out "twenty-second birthday" and inserting in lieu thereof "twenty-third birthday". (c) UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY.— Section 6958(a)(1) of such title is amended by striking out "twenty-second birthday" and inserting in lieu thereof "twenty-third birthday". (d) UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY.— Section 9346(a) of such title is amended by striking out "twenty-second birthday" and inserting in lieu thereof "twenty-third birthday".
