‘(E) AD D IT I ONALME M B E RS.—I n addition to the m em- bers appointed pursuant to paragraph ( 1 ) , and sub j e c tto the 9 -member limit of members on the C ouncil pro v ided in that paragraph, the S ecretary shall appoint additional members to the council from a region that attains addi- tional pounds of production as follows: ‘‘(i) If the annual production of a region is greater than 11 0 ,000,000 pounds, but less than or e q ual to 1 8 0,000,000 pounds, the region shall be represented by 1 additional member. ‘‘(ii) If the annual production of a region is greater than 180,000,000 pounds, but less than or equal to 26 0,000,000 pounds, the region shall be represented by 2 additional members. ‘‘(iii) If the annual production of a region is greater than 260,000,000 pounds, the region shall be rep- resented by 3 additional members. ’ ’. (b) P O W ERS AND DU TIES O F COUN C IL.—Section 192 5 (c) of the M ushroom Promotion, R esearch, and Consumer Information Act of 1990 ( 7U .S.C. 610 4 (c)) is amended— (1) by redesignating paragraphs (6), (7), and (8) as para- graphs (7), (8), and (9), respectively

and (2) by inserting after paragraph (5) the following: ‘‘(6) to develop and propose to the Secretary programs for good agricultural and good handling practices and related activities for mushrooms;’’. SEC.10 10 5 . FO O D S A FE TY ED U CAT I O N INITIATI V ES. (a) INITIATI V E AUT H ORI Z ED.— T he Secretary may carry out a food safety education program to educate the public and persons in the fresh produce industry about— (1) scientifically proven practices for reducing microbial pathogens on fresh produce; and (2) methods of reducing the threat of cross-contamination of fresh produce through sanitary handling practices. (b) COO P ERATION.—The Secretary may carry out the education program in cooperation with public and private partners. (c) AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS.—There is authori z ed to be appropriated to the Secretary to carry out this section $ 1,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2008 through 2012, to remain available until e x pended. SEC. 1010 6 .FA RM ERS ’ MAR K ET P ROMOTION PRO G RAM. Section 6 of the F armer-to-Consumer Direct Marketing Act of 1976 (7 U.S.C. 3005) is amended— (1) in subsection (a), by inserting ‘‘and to promote direct producer-to-consumer marketing’’ before the period at the end; (2) in subsection (b)(1)— (A) in subparagraph (A), by inserting ‘‘agri-tourism activities,’’ after ‘‘programs,’’; and ( B ) in subparagraph (B)— (i) by inserting ‘‘agri-tourism activities,’’ after ‘‘pro- grams,’’ and (ii) by striking ‘‘infrastructure’’ and inserting ‘‘mar- keting opportunities’’; 7USC 7 65 5 a.
