‘‘(1) I N GENERAL.— Ex ce p t as provided in paragraph (2) , the aggregate value’’
and (2) by adding at the end the following new paragraph: ‘‘(2) ASSISTANCE TO GEORGIA D URING F ISCAL Y EAR 20 0 9 .— ‘‘(A) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of Defense is author- i z ed during fiscal year 2009 to exercise the authority of subsection (a) to provide services to, and transfer defense articles and funds to, the Secretary of State for the pur- poses of facilitating the provision by the Secretary of State of reconstruction, security, or stabilization assistance to the country of Georgia. ‘‘( B ) L I M ITATION.—The aggregate value of all services, defense articles, and funds provided or transferred to the Secretary of State under this section for Georgia in fiscal year 2009— ‘‘(i) may not exceed $5 0,000,000; and ‘‘(ii) shall not count against the dollar amount limitation specified in paragraph (1) for such fiscal year.’’. (c) E X TENSION OF AUT H ORITY.—Subsection (g) of such section, as amended by section 1210(b) of the N ational Defense Authoriza- tion Act for Fiscal Year 200 8 ( P ublic Law 110 – 181; 122 Stat. 36 9), is further amended by striking ‘‘September 30, 2008’’ and inserting ‘‘September 30, 2009’’. (d) EFFECTI V E DATE.—The amendments made by this section shall take effect on O ctober 1, 2008. SEC.1208 .E XT E N S IO N A N D EX P ANSION O F A U T H O R IT Y FOR SUPPORT OF SPECIA L OPERATIONS TO CO MB AT TERRORISM. (a) IN GENERAL.—Subsection (a) of section 1208 of the R onald W . Reagan National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005 (Public Law 108–3 7 5; 118 Stat. 2086) is amended— (1) by inserting ‘‘, with the concurrence of the relevant C hief of M ission,’’ after ‘‘may’’; and (2) by striking ‘‘$25,000,000’’ and inserting ‘‘$35,000,000’’. (b) TIMING OF NOTICE ON PROVISION OF SU P PORT.—Subsection (c) of such section is amended by striking ‘‘in not less than 4 8 hours’’ and inserting ‘‘within 48 hours’’. (c) EXTENSION.—Subsection (h) of such section, as amended by section 1202(c) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 (Public Law 110–181; 122 Stat. 364), is further amended by striking ‘‘2010’’ and inserting ‘‘2013’’. (d) TECHNICAL AMENDMENT.—The heading of such section is amended by striking ‘‘ MIL I TARYOPE RATIO NS ’’ and inserting ‘‘SPE -C IAL OPERATIONS’’. (e) EFFECTIVE DATE.—The amendments made by this section shall take effect on October 1, 2008.
