(h) CONFORMING AMENDMENT TO W OUNDED WARRIOR ACT.— Section 1 60 2(4) of the Wounded Warrior Act (10 U .S.C. 1071 note) is amended by striking ‘‘411h(b)(1)’’ and inserting ‘‘411h(b)( 3 )(B)’’. (i) APPLICABILIT Y OF AMENDMENTS.— N o reimbursement may be provided under section 411h of title 37, United States Code, by reason of the amendments made by this section for travel and transportation costs incurred before the date of the enactment of this Act. SEC.63 3. AUTHORIZ E D TRA V E L A N D TRANS P ORTATION ALLO W ANCES F OR NON -M EDICAL ATTENDANTS FOR VER Y SERIOUSLY AND SERIOUSLY WOUNDED , ILL, OR IN J URED MEM B ERS. (a) P AYMENT OF TRA V EL COSTS AUTHORIZED.— (1) I N GENERAL.—Chapter 7 of title 37, United States Code, is amended by inserting after section 411 j the following new section: ‘‘§ 411 k . Travel and transportation allowances: non-medical attendants for members who are determined to be very seriously or seriously wounded, ill, or injured ‘‘(a) ALLO W ANCE FOR NON - MEDICAL ATTENDANT.—Under uni- form regulations prescribed by the Secretaries concerned, travel and transportation described in subsection (d) may be provided for a q ualified non-medical attendant for a covered member of the uniformed services described in subsection (c) if the attending physician or surgeon and the commander or head of the military medical facility e x ercising control over the member determine that the presence of such an attendant may contribute to the member’s health and welfare. ‘‘(b) Q UALIFIED NON-MEDICAL ATTENDANT.— F or purposes of this section, a qualified non-medical attendant, with respect to a covered member, is an individual who— ‘‘(1) is designated by the member to be a non-medical attendant for the member for purposes of this section; and ‘‘(2) is determined by the attending physician or surgeon and the commander or head of the military medical facility to be appropriate to serve as a non-medical attendant for the member and whose presence may contribute to the health and welfare of the member.
