And be it further enacted, That there be, and is hereby, granted t-:;D?;_’m;id’§,;` to the State of ·California, for the construction of the said Stockton and construction of Coppcropolis railroad, its successors and assigns, for the purpose of aiding wd ’°“· in the construction of the said railroad, upon the condition prescribed iu section one of this act, and to secure the safe and speedy transportation og the mails, troops, munitions of war, and public stores over the route 0 said line of railway, every alternate section of public land designated _ Alternate sec- by odd numbers to the extent of five alternate sections on each side of ¤°¤¤· said railroad line as said company may adopt, whenever on the line thereof the United States have Full title, not reserved, sold, granted, or othervylise apprplprpated, and free from pre-emption or other claims or rights at t e time the ine of said road is dennitely Hxed and a plot thereof tiled in 01,%*gg; ;;l¤€¤ the ofrice of the commissioner of the general land-ofiice.
