Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Umzgress assembleaL That the following sums be, and Civil FXPBHSGS the same are hereby, appropriated, for the objects hereinafter expressed, °PPr°P"°m°°' for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy- three, viz. : TREASURY DEPARTMENT. ds- For Life-saving Stations.—— For salaries of two superintendents of the Litesaving life-saving stations on the coast of Long Island and New Jersey, at one ’°“*i°“°i thousand five hundred dollars each, three thousand dollars; and for one superintensuperintendent on the coast of Cape Cod and of Block Island, Rhode d°"“‘i Island, one thousand dollars. For fifty-four keepers of stations, at two hundred dollars each, ten keepers; thousand eight hundred dollars. For pay of crews of experienced surf-men at such stations and for such surf·men; periods as the Secretary of the Treasury may deem necessary and proper, seventy-nine thousand five hundred and twenty dollars. For compensation of seventeen keepers of stations, at two hundred dollars each, three thousand four hundred dollars. For oontingencies of lifesaving stations on the coast of the United contingencies; States, fifteen thousand dollars. For the establishment of life-saving stations on the coasts of Cape Cod f]2$‘f?l’“?l‘m°"* and of situ; rama, Rhode isumi, fifty thousand dollars: Pmvtasu, That ° 3i,;";;;;,,, all life-saving stations hereafter erected shall be erected under the super- under supervision of two captains of the revenue service, to be designated by tho “s‘°“ °£ &°‘ Secretary of the Treasury, and to be under his direction. Revenue- Cutter Serv2'ce.—Tl1irty-four captains, one hundred and one R°"§{*¤*f‘°¤t‘ lieutenants, and sixty-three engineers and pilots employed, three hundred m S°m°°’ and sixty-one thousand three hundred dollars. For rations for officers: Thirty-four captains, one hundred and one qiiiccrs and lieuteuauts, sixty-three engineers and pilots, twenty-five thousand five '°°‘°“’* hundred and eighty-three dollars and forty cents. For pay of crews: nine hundred and forty-two petty officers, seamen, crews and racooks, stewards, boys, coal-passers, and firemen, two hundred and eighty- '·i°¤Si four thousand two hundred and ninety-two dollars. For rations for crews: Nine hundred and forty-two petty officers, seamen, cooks, stewards, boys, coal-passers, and firemen, three hundred and forty-four thousand seven hundred and seventy-two rations, at thirty-four cents, including liquor equivalent, one hundred and seventeen thousand two hundred and twenty-two dollars and forty-eight cents. For fuel for thirty-six vessels, repairs and outfits for same, sh.ip— f“°l» &°· chandlery and engineers stores for same, travelling expenses of officers travelling on duty under orders from the Treasury Department, commutation of quarters, and contingent expenses, including wharfage, towage, dockage, freight, advertising, surveys, and so forth, and miscellaneous expenses which cannot be included under special heads, two hundred and ninety thousand dollars. illariue-Hospital Service.—For supplying deficiency in the fund for _Marine-hos—_ the relief of sick and disabled seamen, one hundred and twenty-five thou- Qlfgldilxigi sand dollars: Provided, That no part of this sum shall be used to support msn, any sick or disabled seaman entitled to be received into a marine hospital, ng 1*8*21* *0 be by contract at the lowest bidder, except when, in the judgment of the g;;t’&;" °x° Secretary of the Treasury, the acceptance of the lowest proposal will, for l other reasons, equally secure the proper care and treatment of marine patients.
