Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America. in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treas- J. T.Nea1e. ury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay unto John T. P¤5’m¤¤t *0- Neale, late an employee of Brigadier-General Andrew Porter, provostmarshal of the Disti·ict of Columbia, (by whom said John T. Neale was assigned to duty as a special detective policcoflicer, and sustained an injury while engaged in said service, which resulted in making him a cripple for life,) out of any moneys in the public treasury not otherwise appropriated, a sum equal in amount to that which he would have been entitled to had said John T. Neale been an enlisted man in the Army, for a permanent specific disability, to wit, the loss of one leg below the knee-joint; and that said amount be computed in accordance with the present allowance for such disability, to date from the eleventh day of Septc1nbe1·, eighteen hundred and sixty-one.
