Ohio, from July fourth to October twenty- seventh, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight. \Vhereas, the States which comprise the Northwest Territory and P"°“““bl°· the adjacent States will hold at Cincinnati, Ohio, from July fourth to ()ctoher twenty-seventh, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight, a centennial exposition commemorative of the organization of the Northwest Territory. under the ordinance of seventeen hundred and eighty-seven, in which exposition all the States and Territories of the United States and the General Government have been invited to participate. the object being in said exposition to present a anorama of the nations resources and present state of progressive dbvelopment, by an exhibition of the products of agriculture, of the various industries and fine arts: also the results of advancement made in the sciences; the whole illustrating the opportunities secured to and the possibilities which wait upon the citizens of this Republic; and \Vhereas the citizens of the Ohio Valley and the several States adjacent thereto have made suitable and adequate preparation and arrangements for holding said exposition, and are des1rous—and it being tit and proper—that the several Executive Departments of the Government, the De artment of Agriculture, the Smithsonian Institution, including the National Museum and Commission of Fish and Fisheries, should participate in said exhibition: Therefore, Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the head of mf,;‘;°“fg“°beD$€P°_;‘;j each of the several Executive Departments of the Government, the sam-m_ at cemuiini Commissioner of Agriculture, and the Smithsonian Institution, €’,§]{§§,‘°‘§*,§§f*2‘;,‘}1§.},‘{ including the National Museum, and Commission of Fish and Fish- S¤¤¤=¤- eries, under the direction of the President of the United States, be. and they are hereby, authorized and directed to prepare and make PM. P- 626 suitable exhibits at the said Centennial Exposition of the Ohio Valley and Central States, to be held at Cincinnati. beginning on the fourth of July and closing October twenty-seventh, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight. That there shall be appointed a Committee of Congress composed mQS‘L_“‘"“*'°° 0* C°¤· of ten members. five to be appointed by the President of the Senate ` and live by the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Said Committee is authorized and directed to visit said exposition and make such report to Congress in that behalf as they may deem need- _ ful and proper: Prom`:/e<l. That to enable the several Executive Departments of the Governinwnt. the l)epartment of Agriculture and the Smithsonian Institution. iuclurling the National Museum. and the Commission of Fish and Fisheries. to articipate in said exposition, to be held as aforesaid. there is hereby appropriated. out of any money in the Treasury Appmpriaticu. not otherwise appropriate< . one hundred and forty-seven thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars. apportioned as follows: _ _ For the \Var Department, seven thousand one hundred and fifty Dembuum dollars. For the Navy Department, fifteen thousand dollars. For the State Department. two thousand five hundred dollars. For the Treasury Department, seven thousand five hundred dollars.
