That each and every imported article, not enumerated in Unenumeratedi s1-:1. this act, which is similar, either in material, quality, texture, or the $L2,gf,§0,{’:;L;1,}`.,! use to which it may be applied, to any article enumerated in this act ”°*°- as chargeable with duty shall ay the same rate of duty which is levied on the enumerated articlg which it most resembles in any of the particulars before mentioned; and if any non-enumerated article equally resembles two or more enumerated articles on which differ- Kwgmbmgggg ent rates of duty are chargeable there shall be levied on such non- E2;?' W enumerated article the same rate of dut as is chargeable on the article which it resembles paying the hitghest rate of duty ; and on articles not enumerated, manufactured o two or more materials, the · duty shall be assessed at the hi hest rate at which the same would be chargeable if com sed wholly of the component material thereof *°fm'f of chief value · and th; words "component material of chief value," mm mm . wherever used in this act, shall be held to mean that component material which shall exceed in value any other single component material of the article; and the value of each com onent material shall be determined by the ascertained value of such material in its condition as found in the article. If two or more rates of duty shall be ap licable to any imported article it shall pay duty at the highest of sudli rates. Sec. 6. That on and after the iirst day of March, eighteen hun- Amcnss um? dred and ninety-one, all articles of foreimi manufacture, such as are ',£,k.,.i usually or ordinarily marked, stamped, randed, or labeled, and all With www 0* °*'*· packages containing such or other imported articles, shall, respect- gm` ively, be plainly marked, stamped, branded, or labeled in legible English words, so as to indicate the country of their origin; and unless so marked, stamped, branded, or labeled they shall not be admitted to entry. — Sec. 7. That on and after March nrst, eiglhteen hundred and ninety- d°Arg£g¤ sim¤1¤¤§’ one, no article of imported merchandise W ich shall copy or simulate m':um the name or trade-mark of any domestic manufacture or manufacturer, shall be admitted to entry at any custom-house of the United States. And in order to aid the officers of the customs in enforcing this prohibition any domestic manufacturer who has adoptedwtrade- Registry or trade marks may require his name and residence and a descri tion of '“"k°’°*"· his trade-marks to be recorded in books which shall be kept for that purpose in the Department of the Treasury under such regulations as the Secretary of the Treasury shall prescribe, and may furnish to the Department fac-similes of such trade-marks; and thereupon the Secretary of the Treasury shall cause one or more co ies of the same to be transmitted to each collector or other proper ohicer of the customs. Sec. 8. That all lumber, timber, hemp, mauilla, wire rope, and iron imma. for my and steel rods, bars, spikes, nails, plates, tees, angles, beams, and bolts :‘g}{§§g ${1 and copper and composition metal which may be necessary for the ’ constructionmand ec uipment of vessels built in the United States for foreign account and ownership or for the p)urpose of being employed in the foreign trade, including the trade etween the Atlantic and Pacific ports of the United States, after the passage of this act, may be imported in bond, under such regulations as the Secretary of the Treasury may prescribe; and upon proof that such materials have been used for such purpose no duties shall be lpaid thereon. But vessels receiving the benefit of this section shal not be allowed to enga ein the coastwise trade of the United States more than two Coastwhstradc. mongns in any one year, except upon the payment to the United States of the duties on which a rebate is herein allowed; Provided, mm.
