United States, ex officio commissioner of the sinking fund of the Dis- dc£@;°“{ff gfémsmm triets of Columbia, shall deliver to the Commissioners of the District of enum m-mu qmaeif Columbia all assessment certificates remaining in his custody issued §Q$§§{_‘}§§“;g°c§;g against private property in the District of Columbia. for unpaid assess- i¤n»r¤v·¤¤¤¤¤¤.•==¤. ments for special improvements under the act of the legislative assembly of the District of Cohunbia approved August tenth, eighteen hundred and seventy-one, and deposited with the commissioners of the sinking fund of the District of Columbia under the provisions of seetion two of the act of the legislative assembly of the District of Columbiz approved May twentsyninuh, eighteen hundred and seventy-three. Sec. 2. That all moneys derived from the collection of special- ;ggg°g·}':g:•;{g· improvement taxes, now in the custody of the Treasurer of the United in custody oe. sic., :3 States, or that may hereafter be collected on account of the assess- f{,°Q}°g’°*‘°,{‘(,{’,{,'*`;’_§’$_jj ment certificates mentioned in section one of this Act, in excess of the mh ord-: District. amount required to pay eight per centum certificates of indebtedness V°l‘ 2* 1* Z"' and coupons therefrom, called for payment prior to the Act of Congress approved August thirteenth, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, entitled “An Act to provide for the payment of the eight per centum greenback certiiicates of the District of Columbia. and for other purposes," shall be deposited in the Treasury of the United States as general revenues of the District of Columbia; and all future collections ou coumsm on M. account of the aforesaid assessment certificates shall be made by the g;'{}c;’§,_°t°gg‘;f{:;g; eollector of taxes of said District, who shall deposit said collections as by we wlimm or prescribed in this seéticn; and the Commissioners of said District shall *‘f,°,Z,§,{,l§,'Q‘{§}f,g,, to redeem, out of the general revenues of said District, any of the ont· E•¤¤¤$ck¤¤¤$;¤di¤z standing drawback eertincates issued under the Act of Congress .37 °°"°‘ °’““· entitled “An Act to provide for the revision and correction of assess- "°’· ”°-P· 1**6- ments for special improvements in the District of Columbia, and for other purposes,” approved June nineteenth, eighteen hundred and seventyeight, as they may be presented to them for redemption, as prescribed by said Act. Sm:. 3. That the Treasurer of the United States is hereby relieved m'f1;¤·;¤H:cgi;·¤i¤;¤¤ from all duty and responsibility in connection with the collection or of said ¤»¤:»L£{°éZ application of the proceeds of said assessments, except as to the pay- ***°°P°· ment of the outstanding eight per centum certificates and coupons referred to in section two, and the deposit, as prescribed in said sec- · tion, of the balance of the amount already in his custody not needed for such payment. Sec. 4. That this Act shall take effect; from and after its passage, mum: repeal. and all acts or parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed. Approved, March 1, 1899.
