C11. 321. 1909. 1139 detains on board such vessel any person as a slave, or, on board such vessel, offers or attempts to sell as a slave any such person, or on the high seas, or anywhere on tide water, transfers or delivers to any other vessel any such person with intent to make such person a slave, or lands or delivers on shore from on board such vessel an person with intent to make sale of, or having previously sold sucll person as a slave, is a pirate, and shall be imprisoned for life. *’°°*¤h¤¤°¤* *°*· Sec. 247. Whoever, being of the crew or shi ’s company of any -S°*§§,'},g,;‘g“'°'°“’°" foreign vessel engaged in the slave trade, or lleing of the crew or mg S-. scc- 5376. v. ship’s companxyfo any vessel owned in whole or in part, or navigated 1m' for, or in beh of, any citizen of the United States, lands from such e vessel, and, on any foreign shore, seizes any person with intent to make such person a slave, or decoys, or forcibly brings, or carries or _ receives suc person on board such vessel, with 'ke intent, is a pirate, rumsnmsst xm. and shall be unprisoned for life. Sec. 248. Whoever brings within the jmisdiction of the United Ul{fg,sg;g,=rv¤i¤w States, in any manner whatsoever any person from any foreign n. s., Saginaw, p. kingdom or count?, or from sea, or holds, sells, or otherwise disposes lm of, any person so rought in, as a slave, or to be held to service or labor, shall be fined not more than ten thousand dollars, one half to P¤¤1¤¤¤¤¤¤ wrthe use of the United States and the other half to the use of the pcarty who prosecutes the indictment to effect; and, moreover, shall imprisoned not more than seven years. Sec. 249. Whoever builds, fits out, equips, loads, or otherwise ,0§’g‘{*g’§¤m"°”°‘° prepares, or sends away, either as master, factor, or owner, any vessel, R. s.. sw. im. p. - m any port or place withm the jurisdiction of the United States, or lm causes such vessel to sail from any port or place whatsoever, within such jurisdiction, for the purpose o procuring any person from any . foreign kingdom or countiiy to be transporte to any port or place whatsoever, to be held, so d or otherwise of as a slave, or held to service or labor, shall be lined not more than five thousand *’¤¤*=l¤¤¤¤° *°’— dollars, one half to the use of the United States and the other half to the use of the person prosecuting the indictment to effect; and shall, moreover, be imprisoned not more than seven ypars. _ Sec. 250. Whoever, within the jurisdiction of the nited States, ,°',E§“‘§'g’°§'Q“{‘,.;§°§g takes on board, receives, or transports from any foreigp kingdom or ¤lg°=é m 53,9 p country, or from sea, any person in any vessel, for the purpose of ms. "’ ' holding, selling, or otherwise disposing of such dpcrson as a slave, or to be held to service or labor, shall be punishe as prescribed in the P““*°'“"°"”'°" section last receding. _ Sec. 251. IWhoever, bemgthe captain master, orcommander of any ,,,{{§§$,§'{.‘;',E,,§{“,,}.j,‘{{‘§$ vessel found in any river, port, ay, harbor, or on the high seas, wg S-· ¤•=<=- F>=¤•>· v- within the jurisdiction of the United States, or hovering on the coast ` thereof, having on board any person, for the purpose of selling such person as a slave, or with intent to land suc person for any such purpose, shall be fined not more than ten thousand dollars and im- P¤¤i¤hm¤¤¢f<>r- prisoned not more than four years. e~ Sec. 252. Whoever, being a citizen of the United States, or other ,¤Sj‘,,‘Q,';‘{mf}Q_ '°“‘°l“ person residing therein, voluntarily serves on board of any vessel mpi S.. we- 53*1. v- employed or made use of in the transportation of slaves from any foreign country or place to another, shall be fined not more than two Punishment for. thousand dollars and imprisoned not more than two years. _ Sec. 253.
