Ugg; j~=·¤l¤** M- That, for the purpose of further increasing the navalestablisment ` p" of the United States, the President is hereby authorized to have constructed, two tirst—class battle ships to cost, exclusive of armor and armament, not exceeding six million dollars each, similar in all essen- "··*·3*·P·”°"· tial characteristics to the battle ship authorized by the Act making- _ appropriations for the naval service for the iiscal year ending June n£Q_·§‘_j;;,}j¢ '""“ **** t irtieth nineteen hundred and eigiht. At least one of such battle ships `shall be built and constructed un er the direction of the Secretary of the Navy at one of the navy-yards; the other of said battle ships may - also be constructed at one of the navy-yards in the discretion of the 0***** b3' °°“"°¤°· Secretary of the Navy, or by contract as hereinafter provided. dQ£,*[.,{},.,§{'"°d°`b°“t Ten torpedo-boat destroyers, to have the highest practicable speed, and to cost, exclusive of armament, not to exceed eight hundred thousand dollars each, to be built by contract, not more than three by any one contractor.
