Janpgrygg Be it enacted by the Senate and Ibaee of Representat2}o:es of the United [Private, No. $4.] States of Amerzea in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury bc, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay to B. £,,QQ‘,f,l‘,{§"}f,‘_‘ Jackman, agent of the Maine Central Railroad Company, Vanceboro, Maine, the sum of one thousand six hundred and seventy-eight dollars and eighty-eight cents, for refund of duties paid on one thousand four hundred and ninety-nine cases of condensed milk erroneously entered for consumption and shipped in transit through the United States to Dawson, Yukon Territory. Sec. 2. That there is hereby apprppriated, out of any money in the M>v¤‘¤r¤‘i¤¤¤¤· Treasury not otherwise appropriate , one thousand six hundred and seventy-eight dollars and eighty-eight cents for the purposes specified in this Act. _ - Approved, January 23, 1909. Laiitte, captain, quartermaster, United States Army, was serving as transport quartermaster, amounting to two thousand nine hundred and twenty-three dollars and fortv—four cents; and if u on such examination and investigation he shall be satisfied that saicilleahtte exercised due diligence and care, under the circumstances existing there at the time, in view of his physical disability, and had no personal knowledge that such embezzlement or embezzlements were occurring, and exercised due diligence in ferreting out ’ and disclosing same, then he is hereby authorized and directed to release and discharge said Laiitte from any further liability for said sum of two thousand nine hundred and twenty-three dollars and forty- P¤r¤¤¤¤¢.¤¤¤- four cents, and to refund and pay back to said Lalitte whatever sums may have been withheld and deducted from his pay.
