D'—’°°’“"°"2’“’1°· BY THE PRESIDENT or THE UNITED STATES or AMERICA A PROCLAMATION ,,Qf;’S';f‘g‘§,Y N“"°“"‘ WHEREAS an Ezrecutive Order dated July second, nineteen Preamble. hundred and eight, directed that the Monterey, San Bemto, and Pinnacles National Forests should be known as the Monterey National Forest; and WHEREAS it appears that the public good will be promoted by adding to the Monterey National Forest certain lands within the State of California which are in art covered with timber, and by eliminating therefrom certain lands; {’,g}{”§§°lQi°g&m°di“°d· Now, therefore, I, William H. Taft, President of the United States ' of America, by virtue of the power in me vested by the Act of Congress approved June fourth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, entitled "An Act Making appropriations for sundry civil expenses of the Government for the iihcall year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, and for other urposes," do proclaim that the boundaries of the Monterey N ationai) Forest are hereby changed and _ O that they are new as shown on the diagram forming a part hereof. ,,,Q;’gf' “g"'·" ”°‘ "" The withdrawal made by this proclamation shall, as to all lands which are at this date legally appropriated under the public land laws or reserved for any public plurpose, be subject to andp shall not interfere with or defeat legal rig ts under such appropriation, nor prevent the use for such public purpose of lands so reserved, so long as such {appropriation is Yegally maintained or Such reservation remains in orce. {}§['§‘j}§‘§§3l“""S· This proclamation shall not prevent the settlement and entry of anv lands heretofore opened to settlement and entry under the Act df Congess approved June eleventh, nineteen hundred and six, entitled "An Aet_ 0 provide for the entry of Agricultural lands within forest reserves. ‘ ’ yggdgouksnwwd tv The lands hereby eliminated from the Monterey National Forest pl which are not embraced m withdrawals for administrative sites for ‘ use in the management of the Forest, or in any other reservation or appropriation, shall be restored to the public domain and become . su ject to settlement under the general irovisions of the homestead laws on such date and after such notice by ublication as the Secretary of the Interior may prescribe, but shali not become subject to entry, filing, selection, or other form of appropriation until the ex i- ration of thirty days from the date so fixed, and no person will {be permitted to acquire or exercise any right whatever under any settlement or occupancy begun prior to such date, and all such settlement or occupation is hereby forbidden.
