General expenses: To enable the Secretary of the Treasury to exe- _ cute and give effect to the provisions of section 6 of the Act of May ¤¤{,*;fig5&A=¤51;¤7¢¤¤¢- 30, 1908 (Thirty-fifth Statutes, page 537): For foremen draftsmen, reiiutfiisatmea architectural draftsmen, and apprentice draftsmen, at rates of pay from $840 to $2 500 per annum; structural engineers and draftsmen, at rates of pay from $840 to $2,500 per annum; mechanical, sanitary, . electrical, heating and ventilating, and illuminating engineers and draftsmen, at rates of pay from $1,200 to $2,400 per annum; computers and estimators, at rates of pay from $1,600 to $2,500 per annum; the expenditures under all the foregoing classes for which a minimum and maximum rate of compensation is stated, not to ex- _ ceed $125,000; supervising superintendents, superintendents, and S“p°"“t°“d°“”’°"‘ junior superintendents of construction, and inspectors, at rates of pay from $2,000 to $3,500 per annum, not to exceed $195,000; expenses of *¤¤P¤¤¤- superintendence, including expenses of all inspectors and other ’ officers and employees, on duty or detailed in connection with work on public buildings and the furnishing and equipment thereof, and the work of the Supervising Architect’s Office, imder orders from the Treasury De artment; for the transportation of household goods, incident to change of headquarters of supervising superintendents, superintendents, and junior superintendents of construction, and inspectors, not in excess of five thousand pounds at any one time, together with the necessary expense incident to packing and draying the same, not to exceed in any one year atotal expenditure of $4,500; office m9m°° '°¤*· ¤“PP“°¤» rent and expenses of superintendents, includiqg temporary steno- ` graphic and other assistance in the preparation o reports and the care of public property, and so forth; advertising; office supplies, including drafting materials, specially prepared paper, typewriting machines, adding machines, and other mechanical labor-saving devices, and exchange of same; furniture, carpets, electric-light dxtures, and office equipment; telegraph and telephone service; freight, expressage, and postage incident to shipments of drawings, superintendents furniture and supplies, testing instruments, and so forth, including articles and su plies not usually payable from other appropriations: Provided, Tllzat no expenditures shall be made hereunder or trans- §,.’?$§,;,,,,,g ,,,,,_ portation of operating supplies for public buildings; not to exceed PHE': lm $6,000 for stationery; not to exceed $1,000 for books of reference, ’p' ' law books, technical periodicals and journals; ground rent at Sala- s¤1mm¤,N.r. manca, New York; contingencies of every kind and description, traveling expenses of site agents, recording deeds and other evidences of title, photographic instruments chemicals, plates, and photographic materials, and such other articles and supplies and such minor and incidental expenses not enumerated, connected solely with work on public buildings, the acquisition of sites, and the administrative work connected with the annual appropriations under the Supervising Architect’s Office as the Secretary of the Treasury may deem necessary and specially order or approve, but not including 0b1¤¤*¤¤¤·=!¤¤¢¤- heat, light, janitor service, awnings, curtains, or any expenses for the general maintenance of the Treasury Building, or surveys, plaster models. progress photographs. test pit borrngs, or mill and shop inspections, $413,540.
