CHAPTER 492
AN ACT For the relief of Doctor Dudley A. Reekie.

Be it enacted by the Senate and, House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Doctor Dudley A. Reekie, Dallas, Texas, a sum representing compensation for the unused annual leave standing to the credit of the said Doctor Dudley A. Reekie on January 31, 1942, when he resigned his position with the Tennessee Valley Authority when ordered to active duty with the Public Health Service. No part of the amount appropriated in this Act in excess of 10 per centum thereof shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $1,000. Approved August 14, 1953. CHAPTER 493
AN ACT To validate a conveyance of certain lands by the Central Pacific Railway Company, and its lessee, Southern Pacific Company, to the Union Ice Company and Edward Barbera.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assenihted, That the conveyances hereinafter particularly described and heretofore executed by Central Pacific Railway Company, a corporation, and its lessee. Southern Pacific Company, a corporation, involving certain lands or interests therein, in the city of Lodi, all in the county of San Joaquin, State of California, and forming a part of the right-of-way of said Central Pacific Railway Company, granted by the Government of the United States of America by an Act of Congress approved July 1, 1862, entitled "An Act to aid in the construction of a railroad and telegraph line from the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean, and to secure to the Government the use of the same for postal, military, and other purposes" (vol. 12, U. S. Stat. L. 489), and by said Act as amended by Act of Congress approved July 2, 1864, entitled "An Act to amend an Act entitled 'An Act to aid in the construction of a railroad and telegraph line from the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean, and to secure to the Government the use of the same for postal, military, and other purposes,' approved July 1, 1862" (vol. 13, U. S. Stat. L. 356), are hereby legalized, validated, and confirmed, as far as the interest of the United States is concerned, with the same force and effect as if the land involved therein had been held at the time of such conveyances by the corporations making the same under absolute fee simple title. The conveyances, recorded in office of county recorder of San Joaquin County, California, in book of official records, which are hereby legalized, validated, and confirmed, are as follows: 1. September 16, 1937; the Union Ice Company, a corporation: volume 594, page 31. 2.
