logical services, supplies, and equipment for the Navy and Marine Corps; and departmental salaries; $810,772,000: Provided, That $725,000 of the foregoing amount shall be transferred to the appropriation "Salaries and expenses. For expenses necessary for the construction, acquisition, or conversion of vessels as authorized by law, including armor and armament therefor, plant equipment, appliances, and machine tools, and installation thereof in public or private plants; procurement, production, and modernization of electronic equipment and material for ships; procurement of critical long lead time components and designs for vessels to be constructed or converted in the future; expansion of public and private plants, including land necessary therefor, without regard to section 3734, Revised Statutes, as amended, and such land, and interests therein, may be acquired and construction prosecuted thereon prior to approval of title by the Attorney General as required by section 355, Revised Statutes, as amended; and departmental salaries necessary for the purposes of this appropriation; $1,479,700,000, to remain available until expended.

S H I P S AND FACILITIES

For expenses necessary for design, maintenance, operation, and alteration of viessels; maintenance and operation of facilities; procurement of plant equipment, appliances, and machine tools, and installation thereof in public or private plants; procurement of equipment, supplies, special clothing and services; installation, maintenance, and removal of ships' ordnance; lease of facilities and docks; charter and hire of vessels; relief of vessels in distress; maritime salvage services; industrial mobilization; and departmental salaries; $766,040,000; of which $16,240,000 shall be transferred to the appropriation "Coast Guard Operating Expenses, 1957" for the operation of ocean stations: Provided, That notwithstanding the availability of the trust fund "Naval Reservation, Olongapo Civic Fund," this appropriation shall be available for such sui^port of the town of Olongai^o as may be authorized by law. The limit on the total of obligations which may be incurred under this head for construction, conversion, or replacement, approved after July 17, 1947, is reduced from "$1,243,289,000" to "$1,224,861,000", and the authority to enter into contracts heretofore granted under this head is reduced by the sum of $18,428,000. Appropriations under this head shall not be available for obligation after June 30, 1957, or for expenditure after June 30, 1958, and any unexpended balance remaining therein on June 30, 1958, shall be disposed of pursuant to the provisions of the Surplus Fund-Certified Claims Act of 1949 (31 U.S.C. 712b).
