EXPENSES
For purchasing and supplying uniforms; the purchase, maintenance, and repair of police motor vehicles, including two-way police radio equipment; contingent expenses, including $25 per month for extra services performed for the Capitol Police Board by such member of the staff of the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate or the House as nuiy be designated by the Chairman of the I^oard; $134,000. To enable the Capitol Police l^oard to provide additional protection for the Capitol Buildings and Grounds, including the Senate and House Office Buildings and the Capitol Power Plant, $880,000. Such sum shall be expended only for payment of salaries and other expenses of personnel detailed from the Metropolitan Police of the District of C^olumbia, and the Commissioner of the District of Columbia is authorized and directed to make such details upon the request Derail per^f the I^oard. Personnel so detailed shall, during the period of such Sonne1 detail, serve under the direction and instructions of the Board and are authorized to exercise the same authority as members of such Metropolitan Police and members of the Capitol Police and to perform such Reimbursement. Q^^j^er cluties as may be assigned by the Board. Reimbursement for salaries and other expenses of such detail personnel shall be made to the government of the District of Columbia, and any sums so reimbursed shall be credited to the appropriation or appropriations from which such salaries and expenses are payable and shall be available for all the purposes thereof: Provided, That any person detailed under the authority of this paragraph or under similar authority t\ !*^*' ^!!' ^^ ^^® Legislative Branch Appropriation Act, 1942, and the Second 54 Stat. Deficiency Appropriation Act, 1940, from the Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia shall be deemed a member of such Metropolitan Police during the period or periods of any such detail for all purposes of rank, pay, allowances, privileges, and benefits to the same extent as though such detail had not been made, and at the termination thereof any such person who was a member of such police on fluly 1, 1940, shall have a status with respect to rank, pay, allowances, privileges, and benefits which is not less than the status of such person in such police at the end of such detail: Provided further, That the (Commissioner of the District of Columbia is directed (1) to pay the deputy chief of police detailed under the authority of this paragraph and serving as Chief of the Capitol Police, the salary of the rank of deputy chief plus $4,000 and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law so long as this position is held by the present incumbent, (2) to pay the two acting inspectors detailed under the authority of this paragraph and serving as assistants to the Chief of the Capitol Police, the salary of the rank of inspector plus $1,625 and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law so long as these positions are held by the present incumbents, (3) to elevate and pay the two acting lieutenants detailed under the authority of this paragraph and serving as supervisors of the plainclothes officers to the rank and salary of captains plus $1,625 and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law so long as these positions are held by the
