Construction For the construction and equipment of six revenue cutters, the sum $1 of ninety thousand dollars; the said sum to be expended under the [ers, direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, for the construction and equipment of the said revenue cutters; and it shall he the duty of the Secretary of the Treasury, before commencing the construction of any revenue cutter, to give public notice, for at least thirty days, in two or more public newspapers published at the city of Washington, and in such other papers published at maritime places, where ship-building is carried on, as he may deem expedient; inviting proposals for materials for, and building, said revenue cutters, to be constructed under the superintendence and direction of an officer of the revenue service; and after opening the proposals, it hall be the duty of said Secretary to enter into a contract with the lowest responsible bidder or bidders therefor. ‘*$¤**€Y¤· Surveys of Public Lands. — For surveying, in addition to the unex- _ pended balance of former appropriations, viz. : _"*;;g;"lp‘:‘5:l; For surveying the public lands, including incidental expenses, to be inggmdgnmiex- apportioned to the several districts according to the exigencies of the PBI50S, viz-: public service— the part to be applied to the surveys of the mineral regions of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa, and to the location of private claims in Florida, to be disbursed at augmented rates-—one hundred and fifteen thousand dollars.
