Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the super- S¤I>¢1§i11¤111d¢}1¢ intendent of Indian affairs at St. Louis, Missouri, be authorized and gfhigufaéii required to ascertain, by proof, the number and value of the horses, reeted to ascermules, asses, and other property, forcibly taken from Thomas Talbot, gg5g2x31g5h;; Elisha Stanley, William Wolfskill, James Collins, Edwin M. Ryland, pmpmy 4,,,;,,,, James Fielding, and Solomon Houck, by the Pawnee Indians, on the 110111 TI1011111¤ night of the twelfth day of October, anno Domini eighteen hundred by ?,‘; and twenty-seven, at a place about twenty-five miles west of the Paw- Pawnee Indians, nee fork of the Arkansas River, and report- the same to the Secretary 9g2P;;; S21? of War, whose duty it shall be to pay over to the parties aforesaid the mm. of wm._° value of the property they respectively lost, and for that purpose the $4155 ¤ppr0- sum of four thousand one hundred and fifty-five dollars be, and the £;;*t;‘}n°€;’ntP‘g same is hereby, appropriated out of any money in the treasury not the parties reotherwise appropriated. sP°°*i'°1Y· Appxovmy, March 3, 1849. V""`; Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Mrs. Amelia _41¤¢1i¢1 C0¤· Couvillion, wife of Zenen St. Romain, be, and she is hereby, author- QgQ°‘Q° ,_;‘Q;‘°,; ized to enter as a preémption, and at the minimum price of public a preemption a lands, the area, in legal subdivisions of one quarter section, so as to f°"3**“."‘°·°{l0‘;‘i embrace her present actual settlement and " a certain improvement on ,;§,_,,,,_ m a piece of public land, situated in the parish of Avoyelles, on Bayou Des Glaises," in the State of Louisiana, it appearing from an official certificate, dated the sixteenth of October, eighteen hundred and forty- eight, of the recorder of said parish, that the said Mrs. Amelia Couvillion became the purchaser at sheriH"s sale of all the right, title, and interest of her said husband in the aforesaid improvement: Provided, however, That the right hereby allowed be subject to any valid adverse claim, if such exist, to any part of the land. M“°h 31 1849; Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary A pension .,5 of War be required to place the name of Polly Aldrich upon the pen- 840 per ¤1111¤1p1 sion roll, and that the said Polly Aldrich be entitled to receive the P°lY sum of forty dollars a year, during her natural life, to commence on the fourth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and forty- seven, in consideration of the services of her deceased husband, Clark 'Aldrich, (as a private in the revolutionary war,) for twelve months.
