Public Law 95-139 95th Congress An Act To establish within the Department of Justice the position of Associate Attorney General.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That (a) chapter 31 of title 28, United States Code, is amended by adding immediately after section 504 the following new section: "§ 504a. Associate Attorney General "The President may appoint, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, an Associate Attorney General.". (b) The section analysis at the beginning of chapter 31 of title 28, United States Code, is amended by adding immediately after "504. Deputy Attorney General." the following new item:

"504a. Associate Attorney General.".
SEC. 2. Section 508(b) of chapter 31 of title 28, United States Code, is revised to read: "(b) When by reason of absence, disability, or vacancy in office, neither the Attorney General nor the Deputy Attorney General is available to exercise the duties of the office of Attorney General, the Associate Attorney General shall act as Attorney General. The Attorney General may designate the Solicitor General and the Assistant Attorneys General, in further order of succession, to act as Attorney General.". SEC. 3. Section 5314 of chapter 53 of title 5, United States Code, is amended by adding the following item at the end thereof: " (66) Associate Attorney General.". Approved October 19, 1977.
