MATCHING GRANTS

To carry out the provisions of section 1 0 (a)(2) of the National Foundation on the A r t s and the Humanities Act of 1965, as amended, 20 USC 959. $25,500,000, to remain available until September 30, 1979, to the National Endowment for the A r t s of which $18,000,000 shall be available for purposes of section 5(1): Provided, That this appropri- 20 USC 954. ation shall be available for obligation only in such amounts as may be equal to the total amounts of gifts, bequests, and devises of money, and other property accepted by the Chairman under the provisions of section 1 0 (a)(2) during the current and preceding fiscal years and the transition period, for which equal amounts have not previously been a p p r o p r i a t e d: Provided further, That the National Endowment for the A r t s portion of the unexpended balances of the appropriations to the National Foundation on the A r t s and the Humanities for "Matching G r a n t s " shall be merged with this appropriation. SALARIES AND EXPENSES

For necessary expenses to carry out the National Foundation on the A r t s and the Humanities Act of 1965, as amended, $96,000,000, 20 USC 951 note, of which $87,800,000 shall be available to the National Endowment for the Humanities for support of activities in the humanities pursuant to section 7(c) of the Act, of which not less than 20 per centum shall be available for assistance pursuant to section 7(f) of the Act, 20 USC 956. and $8,200,000 shall be available for administering the functions of the Act: Provided, That the unexpended balances of the appropriations to the National Foundation on the A r t s and the Humanities for the purposes of section 7(c) shall be merged with this appropriation.
