To designate the week of October 20, 1985, through October 26, 1985, as "National CPR Awareness Week".
Whereas heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the United States; Whereas as many as 1,500,000 Americans may be stricken by a heart attack during 1985; Whereas cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, commonly referred to as CPR, is a first aid procedure which significantly reduces the incidence of sudden death due to a heart attack; and Whereas the death rate due to heart attacks would be reduced if more Americans received training in CPR: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the week of October 20, 1985, through October 26, 1985, is designated as "National CPR Awareness Week", and the President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe such week with appropriate programs and activities.
