cessity. Only the destruction of the inner purpose or motive of right can banish the soul from heaven. Far better, however, if a few employers or employees were willing to be martyrs to the cause of right; then would the coming of God's kingdom be hastened. Under the conditions prevailing to-day, however, we cannot lay down rigid laws. Spiritual life is not wholly destroyed by wrong done under compulsion. Fatal evil is that which is chosen freely by the will, and defended by the understanding. "If ye were blind," said the Savior to the Jews, "ye would have no sin; but now ye say, we see; therefore your sin remaineth."[1]
