rule was the Thistle, which challenged for the America's Cup in 1887 and was defeated by Volunteer. Thistle's beam was 203 feet, while that of Genesta and Galatea was 15 feet. A comparison of two crack English craft and two smart Yankee yachts of the year 1893 shows how close Mr. Herreshoff and Mr. Watson were coming:
