SONG
ACROSS the East came a bar of Gold,
The Sun rose up o'er the main.
"Move swiftly, Sun ! Ere thy course be run,
I shall see My Love again."

The Star in the Heavens paled and fled,
My heart felt still and at rest.
"Ere black-browed Night shall render thee bright,
My Love shall lie on this breast!"
The Ship neared shore, and high in the air
A Crescent rose like a Dove.
"Oh! kindly Moon! Not an hour too soon
To kiss the lips of my Love!"

And down by the water's edge stood she,
A slim, sweet slip of a girl.
"The Crown of Life is a Sailor's Wife!
Better than rubies and pearl!"
