Choice of translation[edit]
The G.D.H. Cole translation of the Second Discourse is not the best. Strongly recommended is that of Roger Masters - his translation of the First and Second Discourses is much more trustworthy and he is careful to maintain all of Rousseau's notes intact. Rousseau felt his notes were important and in other writings encourages the reader to read his works at least twice. One can read the Second Discourse much more often and still gain from it.
