A paper [1] that discussed the magazine article "Style" says the author is unidentified; and suggests Wright, Thomas (1809-1884) (DNB00). I don't see much justification. d:Q18912233 now makes the identification with a Congregational minister [2] who would still have been at college in 1877. I'm adding dates in line with that.
