The "Indian Death Song" poem[edit]

The "Indian Death Song" poem - who was it written by?

On this page it is suggested that the author is Mrs. John Hunter (or Anne Hunter), however this source on Google Books (page 215) suggests that the author is Philip Freneau. Right here it is not only stated that the author of the poem is Anne Hunter, but some background (as to what led to the writing of this poem) is given. I would be very grateful if someone could check and clarify (I was gonna post the poem on Philip Freneau's Wikipedia page, but then saw that the authorship might be in question). Many thanks in advance. Sergeismart (talk) 17:22, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I found some more information here. Its first publication in 1780 was anonymous; the first American publication in 1787 credited it to Freneau; but Hunter included it in a collection of her own poetry that was published in 1802. It seems to me that most reputable sources credit Hunter with the authorship of the poem. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 15:35, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
