Purpose[edit]

This template is for index pages or subpages for articles from the The American Cyclopædia. The items in the columns can be either article links or links to index subpages.

Usage[edit]

{{AmCyc Index Page
 |current =
 |previous =
 |next =
 |year =
 |previous_subpage =
 |next_subpage =
 |extra_notes =
 |other_projects =
 |section =
 |column_1 =
 |column_2 =
 |column_3 =
 |column_4 =
}}

The template goes at the top of an index page or subpage. All parameters except current are optional. This template is to be used at the top of every index page of the Encyclopædia. The first-level index pages are for the volumes. The second-level index pages are for volume subpages and should have corresponding links on the volume index pages.

  • | current =
    • This is a title for the index page.
  • | previous =
    • Type in the name of the previous volume index page. It will create a link to it. Omit if there is no previous volume index page.
  • | next =
    • Same as above but corresponds to next volume index page.
  • | year =
    • The year for the project this page corresponds to (defaults to 1879).
  • | previous_subpage =
    • This is only used for volume index subpages. Type in the name of the previous volume index subpage. It will create a link to it. Omit if there is no previous volume subpage, or for a volume index page.
  • | next_subpage =
    • Same as above but corresponds to next volume index subpage.
  • | extra_notes =
    • This is useful for notifying readers and editors of special features of a volume.
  • | other_projects =
    • Links to wikimedia projects pertinent to this volume. Only include links to wikimedia projects.
  • | section =
    • This is useful in extraordinary situations where the normal display of the SUBPAGENAME is not desired. For example, it is used to implement the examples below since otherwise the SUBPAGENAME of this documentation page (AmCyc Index Page) would be displayed instead of the SUBPAGENAME of the index page ("Volume VIII: Corot - Deseronto" in the first example) for which the header would be used.
  • | column_1 =
    • A label for the first column of the index page.
  • | column_2 =
    • A label for the second column of the index page.
  • | column_3 =
    • A label for the third column of the index page.
  • | column_4 =
    • A label for the fourth column of the index page.

The name of the index page should be prefixed by The American Cyclopædia (year of publication)/. The template opens a table, so the last item on your page can be something to close the table, that is |}.

Example[edit]

{{AmCyc Index Page
 |previous = Volume XIII: Palestine - Printing
 |current = Volume XIV
 |next = Volume XV: Shomer - Trollope
 |column_1 =
 |column_2 =
 |column_3 = Sch
