BAKER, Isaac D., publisher, was born April 1, 1819. He was a founder of the publishing house of Baker and Scribner in 1846, now Charles Scribner's Sons. This firm met with almost unprecedented success, and published the works of such eminent writers as Donald G. Mitchell, J. T. Headley, N. P. Willis, J. G. Holland, Mrs. Ellet, and Mrs. Kirkland. He died Nov. 23, 1850.
