BARBER, Noyes, representative, was born at Groton, Conn, April 28, 1781; son of John and Elizabeth (Dennison) Barber. He became owner of a store in Groton, and conducted the largest mercantile business on the Thames river. He served as major of the 8th Connecticut regiment in the defense of the coast towns during the war of 1812. was twice a member of the state legislature and a representative in the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th 21st, 22d. and 23d, congresses, 1821-'35. He died at Groton, Conn., Jan. 3, 1844.
