ABANCAY, ä-bän-kĭ′, Peru, capital of dept. Apurimac, 65 miles west of Cuzco, on the Abancay, an affluent of the upper Apurimac; in an East-Andean valley, the best sugar district in Peru, with large refineries and silver mines. Pop. about 3,000.
