ARENTS, ä'rĕnts, Albert, German-American metallurgist: b. Klausthal, Germany, 14 March 1840. After studying mining engineering in Berlin he came to America, in 1865, and went to the lead mines in Hampton County, Mass. Later he went west, where he acted as engineer for various mining enterprises. He is chiefly known for his inventions, among which is a siphon tap for lead blast furnaces.
