RUHMKORFF, room'kŏrf, Heinrich Daniel, German inventor: b. Hanover, 1803: d. Paris, 21 Dec. 1877. He removed to Paris in 1839, where he continued to reside. In 1851 he invented the induction coil which bears his name.
