Rawling, Cecil Godfrey, C.I.E. (1909); F.R.G.S., Captain of Somerset Light Infantry; b. 1870 s. of late S. B. Rawling of Beaumont; educ: Clifton College; Joined service in the army, 1891 became Captain, 1901; served N.-W. Frontier, India, won medal with clasp 1897-98; Tibet Mission (medal with clasp), 1904; explored and surveyed 40,000 sq. miles of Western Tibet, 1903; Commanded the Gartok expedition across Tibet, 1904-5; awarded the Murchison Bequest by the Royal Geographical Society, 1909; Chief Survey Officer, British Expedition to Dutch New Guinea, 1913.
