Sawantwadi, Sar Desai of; Savent Bonsale Shrinam Raja Bahadur; b. 1871; educ: Rajkot College; succeeded to gaddi, 1871; belongs to the great Bhonsle family and claims descent from Mang Savant who revolted against Bijapur and became independent; the title of this house (Thasa) is said to have been given by the Prince of Bijapur; area of the State, 125 sq. miles; population, 220,000; revenue, 4½ lakhs; the Chief has a force of 250 sepoys and is entitled to a salute of 9 guns.
