KOHLRAUSCH, Rudolf Hermann Arndt (1809-58). A German physicist, born in Göttingen. He spent the greater part of his life as a teacher of science, and as an experimentalist. He was professor of physics at Marburg and Erlangen, and was associated with Wilhelm Weber (q.v.) in making the first measurements of the electric current using absolute units. These experiments formed the foundation of the modern absolute system.
