A rule to know when the terms begin & end with their returns.[edit]

Hillary terme beginneth the xxiij. of January, and endeth the xij or xiij day of February, and hath iiii returnes. That is, Oct. Hol. Qui Hol. Cra. Pur. Octa Pu.

Easter terme beginneth xvij daies after Easter day & endeth the monday nexte after the ascension day & have five returnes. That is Qui. Pas. Tres Pas. Qua. Pas. Cra. Asc. Men. Pa.

Trinity Term beginneth the xij. day after Whitsonday & continueth xix dayes and hath iiij returnes. That is Cra. Tri. Octa. Tri. Qui Tri. Tre. Tri.

Michaelmas Term beginneth the ix or x day of October & endeth the xxviij or xxix of November and hath viij returnes. That is Octa. Mi. Qui. Mic. Tres. Mic. Mense mi. Cra Ant. Cra Mar. Oct. mar. Qu. mar

Eight daues before any term begin the Exche. openeth excepte trinity terme for then it openeth bu iiii dayes before.
