- בית שמאי אומרין:
- הראייה שתי כסף, והחגיגה מעה כסף.
- בית הלל אומרין:
- הראייה מעה כסף, והחגיגה שתי כסף.
English Translation[edit]
- The House of Shammai say:
- The appearance-offering is two silver [ma'ah], and the festival-offering is a silver ma'ah.
- The House of Hillel say:
- The appearance-offering is a silver ma'ah, and the festival-offering is two silver [ma'ah].
Explanation[edit]
The appearance-offering (re'iyah) was a burnt-offering completely burnt upon the Altar; the festival-offering (chagigah) was a peace-offering eaten by the offerer, his friends and family).
